Redding Neighbors & Newcomers Ladies Night Out

One of the many interest groups of the Redding Neighbors & Newcomers social club is the Ladies Night Out. This ladies-only group event is scheduled bi-monthly, usually on a weeknight, during the third week of the month. Most events are on site, so some local travel to Ridgefield, Bethel and Danbury can occur. Past event activities have covered a broad range of topics including arts & crafts, home decorating, fitness, fashion, food & wine, personal pampering, and the ever-popular Ladies Poker Night. Event ideas are generally suggested by members of the RN&N club and are then organized by the group coordinators (currently Kymm Wiles & Marie-Pascale Addison). These get togethers are a great opportunity to try something that might not otherwise be part of a regular routine or to share something in common with fellow neighbors. The Ladies Night Out schedule of events for 2006 can be found on the Redding Neighbors & Newcomers web-site (www.reddingneighborsandnewcomers.org). To attend events, or make suggestions for events please contact either coordinator through the club web-site or by phone (Kymm Wiles 938-2200 or Marie-Pascale Addison 244-3079).

The most recent RN&N - Ladies Night Out was held on Wednesday, October 18th at the Drapery Couture Design Center, an independent home interior retail store in Bethel, CT. Jill Fleming, owner of Drapery Couture, and her associate Sue Scribner, helped ten members "reinvent a room" by providing tips on how to look at a room objectively, determine its use & style, and find its focal point. The ladies were given ideas on how to change a rooms' surrounding elements (whether it be the wall color, window treatments, rugs, and/or accessories), and incorporate new pieces to build a livable space that compliments their families lifestyle. Also discussed were working within a projects' timeline (all at once, or reinventing over a few months) and budget. In addition to receiving a design book illustrating many of the key topics discussed at the event, members each took home a folio full of planning guidelines & tips, and a coupon good for 10% off their next order in appreciation for attending the event.

Next month, the Ladies Night Out event will be an overnight event in New York City on November 11th. Saturday will be a day of shopping, dinner and then cap the night off with Mama Mia! the musical. Afterward, ladies will be staying the night at The Marrakech Hotel New York.

In December, this Redding Neighbors & Newcomers interest group will host the annual “White Elephant” gift exchange where “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure”! Each guest brings a wrapped item, NO NEED TO BUY - it's something from home (humorous, tacky, useless or even nice) just something you don't want. Some gifts have been returning to this event year after year! Participants draw a number. In numerical order, participants choose a wrapped gift from the pile, unwrap and either swap from gifts chosen & unwrapped earlier (even if the person doesn't want to relinquish the gift) or save. This event is a favorite of all each year!
