ABOUT REDDING

“How beautiful it all is. I did not think it could be as beautiful as this.” Mark Twain (on his arrival in Redding on June 18, 1908)

Once again, Redding, has been named the number one small town in Connecticut (population 6,500-10,000) in the March issue of Connecticut Magazine. Much of our popularity is due to the careful planning that has preserved the distinctive character of Redding. Just by taking a leisurely drive through town, you’ll see how charming and beautiful it is. With our hilly topography, winding roads, eclectic mélange of Colonial and Victorian style homes, stone walls, and thousand of acres of open space, Redding looks much like many small towns in more rural parts of New England. Our town has become a haven for those looking for a kinder, gentler small town environment that is still convenient to New York City and larger adjacent towns.

With that said, Redding Neighbors & Newcomers (RN&N) is just one of the many things that contribute to Redding’s beauty and popularity. Our club compliments the feel of Redding by offering great activities and events for both the young and old, new or established residents. We strive to introduce new and old Reddingites to the social, cultural, and civic aspects of the Town of Redding. Although, RN&N is primarily a social club, we do become involved with some civic activities by volunteering time and donating money and items received from fund-raising events in town.

We welcome you to join us in all the club has to offer. Get out and meet the wonderful people that make up the number one small town in Connecticut.

Upcoming Town Events

Annual Earth Day Celebration

New Pond Farm, the Redding Land Trust, Mark Twain Library and the Town of Redding will be joining forces and co-sponsoring a fun-filled weekend to celebrate Earth Day. We are still in the planning stages but please mark your calendars:

Saturday April 27th:

Help rid our roadsides of trash and recyclables and create Mount Trashmore! Redding’s scouts will coordinate the townwide effort, handing out clear trashbags to interested volunteers. In the afternoon all accumulated bags will come back to the Town Green and become part of Mount Trashmore. The recyclables and trash will be taken away to the transfer station while all participants are invited to stay and enjoy delicious “thank you” treats!

Sunday April 28th:

Earth Day Celebration!

Join us at John Read Middle School at 12:30 p.m. where we will have exciting exhibits sponsored by Redding students, area environmental groups and environmental specialists. Enjoy a dynamic keynote speaker and learn how you and your family can make everyday Earth Day, and then head out onto the spectacular 312-acre Saugatuck Falls Natural Area for an afternoon of wildflower, birding, geology, wetland and natural history walks. Details will be posted on our websites by March 1st: www.newpondfarm.org or www.townofreddingct.org
